Toto Wolff reveals parenting challenge as son Jack leads karting championship
Mercedes Formula 1 team principal Toto Wolff has opened up about finding the balance between his son Jack’s enjoyment and ambition after the nine-year-old’s latest karting victory in Italy.
Competing in the IAME Karting Series, Jack Wolff recently secured a race win that elevates him to the top of the championship standings ahead of the season finale.
Speaking at the circuit, the Mercedes chief drew direct comparisons between the grassroots level of motorsport and F1. “This is where it all starts. Formula 1 is basically this on steroids,” Wolff said. “Same kind of racing and watching the kids is just a super experience.”
During a joint interview at the event, Jack was asked if he feels the pressure of the championship. The nine-year-old replied simply, “Yes.”
Addressing his son’s comments, Wolff acknowledged the difficulty of managing emotional involvement while trying to create a healthy environment for a young racer.
“It’s important to find the right balance because obviously as a parent you’re emotionally involved and it’s completely normal,” Wolff explained. “But he’s nine years old, there are so many small kids and you need to strike the balance right, and we try. Sometimes we get it wrong.

“You have difficult moments and he had some difficult moments today and in the end it comes all together, and every little failure is a learning for the future,” he added.
When asked what advice he would offer to other parents of children working their way up the competitive junior karting ranks, Wolff said: “Just give them time. They’re so small, let them enjoy the karting, and that’s the most important.”
The interview quickly spread across social media. “Jack is going to be a beast. He’s been raised by nothing but talent. Actually looking forward to seeing him progress on, talent already starting to show in him,” one fan commented on TikTok.
“He’s going to be racing Fernando Alonso in F1 one day,” someone else joked, and another fan posted: “He’s a copy of Susie!”
