Argentina vs Egypt prediction as Messi looks to reach World Cup quarter finals

Argentina are looking to set up a World Cup quarter final tie with either Switzerland or Colombia, but will have to get past Mo Salah’s Egypt to do so.

The two sides will meet in the Round of 16, after knocking out Australia and Cape Verde, respectively.

With Lionel Messi also in the running for the tournament’s golden boot, he’ll be hoping to add to his goal tally and pull clear of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, with all three currently on seven goals.

Egypt find themselves at the Round of 16 against the World Cup holders Argentina, having not faced any particularly difficult opponents just yet.

An underwhelming Belgium aside, so far Iran, New Zealand and Australia have faced the North African nation, with Argentina representing a big step up in quality.

That is reflected in the bookies’ odds, with the South Americans strong favourites to progress.

Nevertheless, they were really made to work against Cape Verde in the last round, as they nearly found themselves on the end of a colossal upset.

However, they should expect things to be a little more comfortable against Egypt and it would be difficult to see this match going any way other than a comfortable Argentina win.
