The 6 players let go in the summer & how they’re faring

There was a lot of focus on new arrivals, but Liverpool let six players leave in the summer and how are they getting on?

Two club legends, one free transfer and two academy prospects were part of the six players to depart Anfield in the summer.

Here’s how they have fared at their new clubs so far.

Curtis Jones

Jones left for Inter in the summer, but his start to life in Italy has been disrupted by an abdominal injury.

He was being slowly phased into Cristian Chivu’s side, starting half of the six games he was available, but he picked up an injury following Inter’s 2-2 draw with Roma in September.

Inter confirmed he had a myofascial strain in the adductor muscles of his right thigh and he has been out since then.

The fans do appear to have taken to him though, if this video is anything to go by. We don’t know why either.

Stefan Bajcetic

Spanish defensive midfielder Bajcetic was a youth prospect that Liverpool took from Celta Vigo in 2013 but he never truly managed to break into the first team.

He made just 12 league appearances for the club over two seasons before being loaned to Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas last season.

In the summer, Liverpool cut ties permanently and sold him back to Celta Vigo.

Since moving back to Spain, the 22-year-old has been placed in Celta’s reserve team in the Segunda, where they are currently 16th.

He’s played just 24 minutes of football so far this season after he returned from injury.

Ibrahima Konate

Konate was the latest Liverpool product to leave for Madrid on a free but it has worked out better for him than it has for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Frenchman is the starting centre-back for Madrid alongside Dean Huijsen and has over 1,000 minutes of football so far this season.

However, Madrid’s defence has not exactly been rock solid as is usually typical for a Jose Mourinho side. The team have kept just four clean sheets this season, one of which Konate spent on the bench.

Despite this, Konate has been one of the better defenders for the team this season.

Mohamed Salah

Trabzonspor pulled off quite the coup when they convinced Salah he should join them rather than their wealthier neighbours or Saudi Arabia.

Club president Ertugrul Dogan told the BBC what he said when he was asked by Salah ‘Why should I choose Trabzonspor now?’ And he was sold a romantic dream of being an idol in the city.

Of course, a £14.6m-a-year salary helps as well as 20% of the merchandise sold with his name on it but Salah was convinced to be part of a project and the star of that.

So far, it’s working out well.

The Super Lig is a step down from the Premier League but Salah has hit back at suggestions he was a busted flush and is in fine goalscoring form.

In the league, he’s got eight in 10, including a man of the match performance against Galatasaray that saw him score a hat-trick as well as register an assist and he is one off the league’s top scorers Gift Orban and Victor Osimhen.

Salah has been producing in Europe too with two goals and two assists in the three Conference League games he has played so far.

Trabzonspor sit third in the Super Lig, three points off Galatasaray and the only team that have inflicted defeat on the league leaders so far.

Andrew Robertson

After a move in January failed to materialise, Robertson finally joined Spurs in the summer, looking to add a winning mentality to a very shaky backline.

It certainly was not the easiest of starts. Robertson played the full 90 of Spurs’ 3-0 hammering away at Brentford and also started the 2-0 loss to Newcastle.

But since the international break, things have turned around for both player and club. They beat Coventry 3-1 with Robertson getting an assist. He then started the away fixture at Chelsea which resulted in a first win for Spurs at Stamford Bridge since 2018.

Harvey Elliott

Elliott’s various loan moves have just not worked out well for him.

After being contractually frozen out of playing at Villa, he is now not having much luck at Valencia.

He has yet to start a game and has played more than 30 minutes of football on just two occasions so far.

He also has not endeared himself to the fans after he picked up the rarely seen double yellow card, the second of which was for arguing with the referee about his first one.

Valencia have changed manager since and according to AS, new coach Javier Aguirre doesn’t much fancy Elliott.
