Premier League table since Man Utd appointed Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick’s Manchester United reign has hit a slightly bumpier patch this season, but the bigger picture remains seriously impressive.
Since taking charge in January, the 44-year-old has overseen 23 Premier League matches, winning 13, drawing six and losing four.
That’s 45 points at an average of 1.96 per game – the sort of rate that would equate to 74 points, which is comfortably top four but probably some way off a title charge. Only Manchester City have scored more goals than the Red Devils since Carrick was parachuted in.
There is, however, a little more context to that remarkable run now. United have won just one of their six Premier League matches so far in 2026-27, leaving them 12th in the table.
Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham extended their winless run to five matches, with Bryan Mbeumo’s opener cancelled out by a stoppage-time equaliser from Dominic Solanke against the 10-man visitors.
Still, you look at the likes of Liverpool (6th), Chelsea (9th), Aston Villa (14th), Newcastle United (15th) and Tottenham (18th) and are reminded that the picture could be a whole lot worse.
Carrick has since been handed the permanent manager’s job until at least 2028. The early evidence suggests United may finally have found some stability on the touchline, even if the opening six games of this season have been less convincing.
Here’s the breakdown of the Premier League table since Carrick took charge in January.
