Who are the best-performing players across Europe’s top five leagues this season? We’ve turned to their WhoScored ratings to find out.

WhoScored‘s comprehensive system of player ratings is based on a whole host of stats, which give an indication of who’s playing well and who’s not.

As the season progresses, we’ll be keeping track of the top 10 highest-rated players in Europe’s top five leagues. Right now, there’s no one from the Premier League…

10. Marco Grull – 7.88

It’s been a mixed start to the season for Werder Bremen, but Austrian midfielder Grull has stood out in their two home wins.

He both scored and assisted, with a man-of-the-match rating, as they defeated RB Leipzig and Augsburg at the Weser Stadium. Grull even came out of their opening weekend 4-1 tonking at Freiburg with credit, earning an 8.01 match rating in the heavy loss.

9. Jude Bellingham – 7.91

Bellingham was in brilliant form at the World Cup with England, and he appears to have carried it into his fourth season with Real Madrid.

Now playing for Jose Mourinho, Bellingham is already halfway to matching his goal tally in La Liga from last season. He has a pair of assists to go with his three goals as well, both coming in the same win over Real Sociedad.

Bellingham’s average took a slight hit following a poorer showing in the Madrid derby defeat, but the wider picture is that Mourinho appears to have found a better platform for his skillset.

8. Maximilian Mittelstadt – 7.92

Try saying that name in a hurry.

Stuttgart have lost their last two matches, but Mittelstadt has received a man-of-the-match rating in both of them. It wouldn’t be a massive shock to see the 29-year-old Germany international move on in the summer if the Swabians regress to the mean and fail to qualify for Europe again.

7. Antonio Nusa – 7.94

Nusa’s averages swelled with his 9.66-rated performance for RB Leipzig against Hamburg, when he scored and notched two assists. A 6.48 in Leipzig’s 2-0 defeat at Leverkusen on Sunday brought that back down.

The Norwegian winger also scored on his first appearance of the season against Borussia Monchengladbach.

There was interest in the 21-year-old’s signature in the summer, and that will continue to be the case if he keeps this up.

6. Cristian Casseres – 8.04

Toulouse midfielder Casseres finds himself in the top 10 largely by virtue of having the most assists in Ligue 1 so far this season with four.

Casseres is yet to miss a minute this season for Toulouse, where he’s in his fourth season.

5. Kylian Mbappe – 8.14

Mbappe’s personal pleas to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or haven’t convinced everyone, but mission 2027 starts now.

A hat-trick against Real Sociedad in Madrid’s second game of the season showed Mbappe means business after a summer in which he became the World Cup’s leading scorer of all time.

The French forward has also scored once against Malaga, twice against Rayo Vallecano and once against Elche so far.

An ineffective display against Atleti puts him some way behind the top two for now, though.

4. Michael Olise – 8.23

By last season’s standards, Olise had a bit of a quiet start to 2026-27. Just one goal and zero assists in their first three Bundesliga outings of the campaign, which included a goalless draw at newly-promoted Schalke and a narrow 2-1 victory over minnows Elversberg.

But his 10.0 masterclass in the Champions League against Bodo/Glimt (two goals and an assist) hinted that last term was no flash in the planet. He remains one of Europe’s most devastating, elite forwards. A hat-trick and another 10.0 rating in Friday’s 7-0 mauling of Union Berlin catapults him into the top five.

3. Igor Matanovic – 8.37

The unlikely early frontrunner, Matanovic is a German-born Croatia international currently in his second season with Freiburg.

He bagged a brace against Borussia Monchengladbach after getting a goal and assist against Werder Bremen on his first outing of the season. But a lowly 6.89 rating at the weekend has seen him fall behind the two world-beaters at the top of this list.

While he isn’t a household name yet, he is starting to be linked with a move in 2027. But whatever happens, he’ll be eager to preserve this momentum.

2. Lamine Yamal – 8.86

Quite simply, Yamal is taking his game to new levels this season. Seven goals and four assists in La Liga to go alongside a perfect 10.0 rating in their Champions League thrashing of Feyenoord.

And yep, he’s still only 19. This lad is ridiculous. He has completed the most dribbles across Europe.

1. Raphinha – 8.95

Back in January, we declared Raphinha the best player in the world, asking the question:

“Is there another player in world football who can claim to elevate their team as much as Raphinha? In a collective sport, isn’t that the most important thing?”

That take didn’t age all that well, as the Brazilian suffered a frustratingly injury-ravaged latter half of the 2025-26 campaign and struggled to make an impact at the World Cup as a result.

But look at him now. After being converted into a striker, Raphinha has been on fire this season. Twelve(!) goals and three assists in La Liga so far, averaging a goal contribution every 37 minutes.

Even when in the one time he failed to find the net for the first time this season, Raphinha set up two goals in Barca’s 4-2 win over Levante. And then returned with back-to-back hat-tricks. He is the top scorer across Europe.
