Jordan Henderson provides update from hospital bed after surgery on his ‘smashed’ forearm after freak fall
England midfielder Jordan Henderson has provided an update from his hospital bed after picking up a freak injury after the Round of 16 clash against Mexico.
Despite not playing in the match, Henderson broke his left arm on the pitch after he slipped and fell awkwardly while hopping over an advertising board.
While the rest of his teammates flew on to Miami in high spirits following the hard-fought win over Mexico, Henderson remained in Mexico City in hospital.

Henderson out of surgery in American hospital
The midfielder has since been relocated to Kansas City orthopaedic institute, where he has undergone surgery.
That operation was a success, with Henderson now recovering and ready to cheer on his teammates for the rest of the tournament.
In a post on his Instagram account, he posed with a big thumbs up beside the three surgeons who carried out the procedure, Dr. Kenneth P. Unruh, Dr. Mark J Winston and Dr. Kirk McCullough.
He wrote: “Surgery done! Let’s get ready for the big one Saturday.
“Thank you to all the staff that looked after me at Kansas city orthopaedic institute. Especially the 3 surgeons who carried out the operation.”
Henderson will now have a watching brief for the remainder of the competition, having been ruled out for the quarter-finals and beyond, should England get past Norway.
While he will be undoubtedly gutted not to be able to finish the tournament, his appearance in England’s 2-0 Group L victory against Panama meant he became the only England men’s player to represent the Three Lions at seven different major tournaments.
He made his first tournament appearance for his nation at Euro 2012 but didn’t score his first England goal until Euro 2020, when he contributed to the 4-0 quarter-final victory over Ukraine.
Henderson will join up with the squad again once he’s out of hospital, with his father Brian telling the Daily Mail: “He won’t be leaving his team-mates. He’ll be there until it’s finished.”
Brian also revealed that the injury was worse than the broken wrist, which was first reported, stating: “It’s his left forearm – he’s just completely smashed it.”
